The Mid-American Conference announced it's Men's Swimmer of the Week today. The award went to Buffalo senior Mark Sy (Scarborough, Ontario/Mary Ward CSS). Sy led the way for the Bulls with three individual victories against Ohio. Sy scored easy wins in the distance events opening with a 9:42.57 clocking to take the 1,000 freestyle by 15 seconds over his closest opposition. Sy later won the 500 freestyle in 4:46.56. He also posted a season-best time in winning the 200 butterfly in 1:53.83.
Kurtis Leer, Junior, Ball State, (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble H.S.)
Leer tallied a pair of first-place finishes in the Cardinal's loss to Miami, topping the list in the 200 free (1:43.91) and the 100 free (46.83). Leer was also a member of the second-place 400 Medley Relay squad (3:31.84).
Doug Fleming, Senior, Eastern Michigan (Burlington, ONT/Nelson)
Fleming had three first-place finishes in EMU's 179-64 drubbing of Cleveland State, Nov. 12. Fleming won the 50 yard freestyle in 21.48 seconds, finished first in the 200 yard backstroke (1:52.32), and was a leg on EMU's winning 400 yard medley relay team (3:27.21).
Scott Robson, Junior, Miami (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard South)
Robson made his bid for back-to-back MAC Men's Swimmer of the Week honors by being the only Miamian to win two events, the 200 Fly and 1000 Free, in a 122-121 squeaker over Ball State on Saturday. Robson also contributed a second-place finish in the 500 Free (4:47.53) in a meet where Miami's second- through fifth-place finishes counted big. Ball State edged Miami in event wins, 7-6, despite losing the meet. In his 1000 Free win, the junior set a new personal record (9:44.23). On the season, Robson has won five of his seven events and finished second in the other two. Miami improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the MAC with the win.
Donald Jupp, Junior, Ohio (Stow, OH/Stow HS)
Jupp won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.67 against Buffalo. The junior swam anchor on the winning 400 yard medley relay against Buffalo and was the third leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay against Buffalo.
