Kent State Leads After Day One Of Women's Golf Championship

INDIAN SPRINGS, Ohio - Day one of the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship concluded on Friday with Kent State holding a 30-shot advantage over second place Toledo. The Golden Flashes posted a two-round team total of 584. This is the first year the MAC Women's Golf Championship is a 72-hole event, with the third round scheduled for tomorrow and the final 18 holes set for Sunday.

Leading the way for the Golden Flashes was Tara Delaney, who shot 69 en route to ending the day in first-place. Delaney finished with a 36-hole total of 142 (73-69). KSU's Kira Meixner is currently tied for second place after finishing the day with a two-round total of 146 (74-72). Teammate Becky Wood is in fourth place after carding a 36-hole total of 147 (74-73). Kirby Dreher and Karen Delaney are also in the top ten for Kent State after posting a two round total of 150 -- the two are currently tied for sixth place.

Sitting in second-place is Toledo. The Rockets turned in a score of 614. Tammy Clelland paced Toledo with a total of 149 (74-76) and currently sits in fifth place. Kim Kester also placed in the top-10 after day one, whose score of 150 (72-78) puts her in a tie at sixth-place.

Ball State holds third-place after turning in a score of 303. Julie Harder and Carmen Bodine are both tied for tenth place overall and are leading the Cardinals after each of them posted a 36-hole total of 152.

In fourth-place is Ohio with a total of 617. Ana Brown led the Bobcats and is tied for second-place after firing a 146 (75-71).

Western Michigan is in fifth-place after a two round total of 624, while Eastern Michigan is currently in sixth place after firing a 36-hole team total of 627. EMU's Catherine Fortin lead the Eagles and is currently in ninth place after carding a 151 (75-76).

Northern Illinois and Bowling Green rounded out the field after 36-holes. The Huskies are currently in seventh place (640), while the Falcons are in eighth after totaling 647.
