Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: October 18-24
Akron Kofi Sarkodie (soccer)
Kofi Sarkodie (Jr., 3.969, biology) led The No. 1 University of Akron men's soccer team to a pair of wins against Michigan and Western Michigan last week. The versatile defender recorded his first career hat trick in a 7-1 rout of the Wolverines Tuesday night before assisting the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Western Michigan that clinched Akron's sixth consecutive MAC regular-season championship Saturday. The Hermann Trophy candidate logged all 90 minutes in each match as UA improved to 13-0-1 on the season and 5-0-0 in conference play.
Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
