Xavier Silas (Jr., 3.35, pre-communication studies, Austin, Texas) The Mid-American Conference leader in scoring through the league's first-round of divisional play, averaged 22.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, and shot 40 percent from three-point range, in Northern Illinois' 1-1 record during two MAC-West road contests last week.
Silas poured in a game-high 19 points, including three-consecutive three-pointers with under eight minutes remaining, to lift the Huskies to a 58-54 win at Toledo on Jan. 20, keeping the Huskies as the lone unbeaten team in the MAC. Silas' scoring came on a 6-for-14 effort from the field, including a 4-of-4 tally from the free throw line. He also had two rebounds, and tallied one assist with one block in 32 minutes.
In NIU's back-and-forth 81-75 loss at preseason West Division favorite Central Michigan, the Huskies' first setback during MAC play, Silas scored a game-high 26 points and tore down seven rebounds, including six defensive boards. Silas converted another six field goals, including three from three-point range, and went 11-for-14 from the free throw line.
For the week, Silas tallied 12 field goals, including six three-pointers, shot nearly 84 percent from the free throw line (15-18), and had nine rebounds, one assist and one block with 45 points in an average of 34 minutes per game. He has led the Huskies in scoring in each of the last four games, and 10 times overall this season.
