LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Central Michigan University gymnast Sara Burtinsky fell short in her bid to become an All-American on Thursday evening at the NCAA Championship hosted by UCLA.
Burtinsky finished the all-around competition with a score of 39.275, which was good enough for 23rd place. The top 12 finishers earned All-America status.
The junior took part in the second session on Thursday and rotated with the University of Utah team. She began on the bars with a 9.825. She scored a 9.775 on the beam, a 9.825 on the floor and a 9.85 on the vault.
It was Burtinsky's first trip to the national championship meet and marks the end of the Chippewas' season.
