Indian Springs, Ohio - Kent State University won its sixth-straight Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship as play concluded Sunday at a rain soaked Walden Ponds golf course.

The Golden Flashes were led by medallist Gabby Wedding. The junior was the only golfer in the tournament to finish under par (-1) as she shot a 215 for the tournament. Also contributing to KSU's victory was runner-up Becky Wood who shot a 224 for a second-place finish, and Martina Gillen, who shot a 228 to finish in fourth-place.

Western Michigan was the runner-up, as they shot a team total of 920, which was their lowest total ever (946, 2003). Three Broncos finished in the top-10, as Jenna Walter and Lindsay Dunigan finished in a tie for fifth-place, while Erin Thorne finished in tenth-place.

The eighteen stroke deficit to Kent State is the narrowest margin that the Golden Flashes have ever won the tournament by. Other records of note that were achieved in 2004 was Wedding's second round score of 69, which tied her own mark as the lowest round ever shot in the MAC Championship. Wedding's round helped her establish the lowest ever tournament score shot, besting the previous mark of 218 which was set in 2001 by Martina Gillen.

The 2004 Women's Golfer of the Year went to Wedding, who was the 2002 Freshman of the Year. Earning Freshman of the Year accolades was Allyson Hatcher of Marshall. She finished in a tie for eighth-place, with a total score of 231. The Sportswoman of the Year went to Toledo's Sara Boogaard, as voted on by her peers. It marks the third-straight year that a student-athlete of Toledo has won at least a share of the award. The Coach of the Year went to Western Michigan's Cindy Trout, who led the Broncos to their best ever finish at the MAC Championship, along with the lowest score ever for WMU.

Earning first team All-MAC accolades were Kent State's Gillen, Wedding and Wood, Toledo's Boogaard and Western Michigan's Stephanie Donkin.

All-MAC second team selections were Bowling Green's Jenny Schnipke, who finished in third-place, Marshall's Hatcher, Ohio's Cari Mozingo, Toledo's Breanne Hall, and Western Michigan's Walter.
