Indian Springs, Ohio-Round two action at the Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship concluded on Saturday, with Kent State shooting a team total of 296 to overtake Western Michigan for first place.

In the race for the medallist, it is Kent State's Gabby Wedding who leads the way after two rounds. The junior has fired consecutive rounds below par (71, 69) to sit atop the leaderboard. In second-place is Bowling Green's Jenny Schnipke (74,74) for a two day total of 148, which is eight back of Wedding. Toledo's Sara Boogaard and Kent State's Becky Wood are tied for third-place with a two-day total of 151

The Golden Flashes were led by Wedding who fired a three under par 69. The score ties the mark for the lowest MAC championship round ever, which she set in 2002. Also carding solid rounds on the day for KSU was Martina Gillen, who rebounded from her round one 80 to shoot a 73, while Wood fired a 75. The Golden Flashes' two-day total now sits at 602.

Despite being overtaken for first-place, Western Michigan had another solid day as they shot a team total of 309, with three players turning in cards in the 70's. Leading the way was Stephanie Donkin and Lindsay Dunigan who both fired rounds of 75, while Caitlan Roschek shot a 78. After two rounds, the Broncos sit eight strokes off of the lead with a two-day total of 610. In the previous five years of the tournament, Western Michigan's best finish was a fifth-place finish, which was accomplished in 2002 and 2003.

Moving into third-place after two rounds of play are the Toledo Rockets. Toledo shot a team total of 311, as four players turned in rounds in the 70's. Sara Boogaard continued her solid play, as she led the way with a 76, while teammate Helene Thoman fired a 77. After two rounds, the Rockets have a team total of 629. Should Toledo remain in third-place, it would mark the third consecutive year that the Rockets finished there.

Sitting in fourth-place is Ohio University, which fired a team total of 318 on Saturday, after a 313 on Friday. The Bobcats were led by Meredith Waterston's round of 78. After two days of competition, Ohio has totaled a mark of 631, and trail Toledo by only two strokes.

Marshall has a one stroke lead over Ball State for fifth-place, as the Thundering Herd's round of 322 was two shots better than their round on Friday. Leading the way for Marshall was Amber Churchill, who shot a 79. The Thundering Herd are competing in just their second championship, after they finished in eight-place last year in their initial campaign.

The Cardinals fired a team total of 315, rebounding from their first-round score of 332 to move up the boards to sixth-place. Three golfers carded rounds in the 70's, while four of the five posted better rounds on Saturday than on Friday. The most noticeable was Chelsie Flannery, who shot a 74, after she had posted an 84 on Friday.

Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan sit in a tie for seventh-place with a two round total of 659. The Falcons continue to receive strong play Schnipke, as she fired a second consecutive round of 74 and currently sits in second-place. For the Eagles, it was Katie Strawser who posted a 77 on the day.

Northern Illinois sits eight strokes back of BGSU and EMU, as the Huskies fired a 336 on the day. Lisa Bailey shot a round of 80 to help guide NIU.

The final round of the MAC Women's Golf Championship is set to begin Sunday morning at 8:30, with a shotgun start. For complete results throughout the tournament, visit either www.wmubroncos.com or www.mac-sports.com.
