MAC Announces Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Jeff French -Western Michigan
Senior - Munster, Ind./Munster HS
French was the only Bronco tennis player to go undefeated, 4-0, in doubleheader action for the Broncos. In the first Mid-American Conference match of the season for the Broncos, French teamed with Tim Bradshaw to win 8-3 at three doubles and he then moved up in the lineup to dispatch of Albert Alant 6-2, 6-0 at five singles. French won two more matches later in the day against nationally-ranked Cornell. He won again at doubles, 8-5, and picked up a second straight set victory by defeating Tongle Yu 7-6 (2), 6-1 at six singles to give the Broncos their 10th match win in a row and third straight against a nationally-ranked opponent.


Joe Epkey - Ball State
Junior - Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS
Epkey helped the BSU men's squad post two sweeps over the weekend - a 7-0 decision over Eastern Kentucky and a 7-0 win over Anderson. Epkey went undefeated in both doubles and singles play. He secured a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Eastern Kentucky's Tom Wospil at the No. 2 singles position and then followed up with a sweep (6-0, 6-0) win over Anderson's Cameron Scott at the No. 1 singles position. In doubles play, Epkey teamed with Matt Baccarani at the No. 1 doubles spot to take down EKU's Wospil and Billy Pfaffinger 8-2. Versus Anderson, Epkey paired with Joe Vallee for an 8-0 sweep over Jeremy Zerkle and Aaron Dicken at the No. 2 doubles position.

Travis Curran - Toledo
Junior - Lima, Ohio/Shawnee, HS
Curran had a 5-0 record combined in singles and doubles last weekend as the Rockets went 3-0. On Friday against Duquesne, the junior teamed with Brian Rager for an 8-5 win at second doubles. In Saturday's first match versus DePaul, Curran played fifth singles and won 6-3, 6-0, while posting another 8-5 victory with Rager. In the nightcap against IUPUI, Curran moved up three flights in singles to the second position and won easily, 6-1, 6-2. Curran and Rager moved up to the first flight in doubles as well, and won 9-7.
