Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: October 11-17

Akron Michael Nanchoff (soccer)

Michael Nanchoff (Jr., 3.465, sport and exercise science) scored a pair of game-winning goals to lead the No. 1 Zips to a perfect 2-0 mark last week. The junior midfielder assisted UA's first goal of the match at Penn State, then defeated the Nittany Lions with a penalty kick in the game's 107th minute to lift the Zips to a 2-1 double-overtime victory. Then, Nanchoff converted his third penalty kick in as many chances this fall for Akron's first score of the night against the Bulls in a 4-0 rout. For his efforts, he was name to the National Team of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer Monday.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
