Ohio drops 143-120 decision to host Ohio State
COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Ohio swimming and diving teams both fell to Big Ten powerhouse Ohio State with the men losing 143-120 and the women dropping a 180-114 decision.
After dropping the first nine events of the meet to the 20th-ranked Ohio State men's team, the Bobcats exhibitioned the Buckeyes. Luke Herlehy (Batavia, Ill.) earned first place points in two events, taking the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 4:46.82 and the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:13.91.
Tyler Post (Coldwater, Ohio), Thomas Ferrigno (West Chester, Pa.) and Jason Reutter (Crown Point, Ind.) also earned first place points for the Ohio men.
Post took the 100 butterfly in a time of 53.38, Ferrigno won the 200
backstroke with a time of 1:59.92 and Reutter took the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.30.
Eastern Michigan 139, Oakland 104
YPSILANTI, Mich.-- The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Oakland University to completed its second sweep in as many days, Saturday, Jan. 14, in Jones Natatorium. The men defeated the Golden Grizzles 139-104 while the women won 140-103.
Both squads downed IUPUI yesterday in a home meet.
The Eagles' men's team improves to 4-1 on the season while the Golden Grizzles drop to 5-2. The victory marks the ninth straight win over Oakland and improves the all-time series to an 18-4 Eagle edge.
Despite Oakland taking first place in eight of the thirteen events, the men were able to capture the victory. Dan Wohl was the lone Eagle with dual individual wins, as he claimed the 200-IM and 200-butterfly races. Steven Bowling (1000 free), Adam Wohl (500 free), Josh Olsen (1-meter diving) also claimed first place finishes.
