MEN'S PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jose Orozco - Western Michigan
Senior - Cali, Columbia/El Colegio Alejandria
Orozco led the Broncos to a doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon against Iowa and Valparaiso in which the Broncos won all 21 matches played. In singles, Orozco didn't drop a set in defeating Iowa's Christian Bierich 6-4, 6-3 in number two singles and Valparaiso's Nic Kooyers 6-4, 6-2 at one singles. Orozco teamed with Alex Birchmeier at two doubles in defeating Iowa 8-4 and Valparaiso 8-1. With the four wins on Saturday, Orozco moved into a tie for sixth on the Broncos' all-time wins list with 180 career victories.
Joe Epkey - Ball State
Junior - Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove
Epkey helped the BSU men's tennis squad to two wins over the weekend - a 7-0 sweep of Dayton and a 6-1 victory over the University of Indianapolis. Epkey posted two straight-set singles wins - one in the No.1 position and one in the No. 2 slot. Epkey has gone undefeated (3-0) when he has played in the No. 1 singles spot this season. He also teamed with Matt Baccarani for two victories at No. 1 doubles. The duo did not give up a single game in an 8-0 win over Dayton and took down Indianapolis' No. 1 tandem, 8-5.
Nabil Mourad Filho - IPFW
Sophomore - Aruja, Brazil
In one match last week, Filho went 2-0 in the Mastodons loss to Xavier, 6-1. In singles, he played No. 2 singles against Jeremy Miller of Xavier, defeating him in two sets, 6-3, 7-5. In doubles action, Filho and partner Landry Nzudie played No. 1 doubles and defeated Rob Simpson and Doug Matthews, 8-3.
Jared Miller - Toledo
Freshman - Parkersburg, W.Va.
Miller helped lead Toledo to a 7-0 home win over Xavier on Saturday at home. Miller defeated one of the Musketeers' winningest players in Ra'ees Ismail at fourth singles handily (6-3, 6-3). At third doubles, Miller teamed with Chris Clark to defeat Ismail and Rustin Reyes 8-3. The win was the second consecutive for the duo, who lead the Rockets in doubles wins.
