Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: May 2-8
Miami Jon Edgington (baseball)
Jon Edgington (second base, Sr., 3.73, microbiology) was one of six Miami baseball players to earn their degree Saturday, though he missed the graduation ceremony for an away game, receiving a bachelor's degree in microbiology. He was also named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District second team on Friday. Edgington batted a team-best .545 in three games vs. MAC-leading Kent State this week, collecting six hits in 11 at-bats. Two of hits went for extra bases, leading to a .727 slugging percentage for the weekend. He registered a career-high tying four hits on Friday, the fourth time in his career (and second this season) that he has reached that total, as he now has 12 multiple-hit games this season. Edgington was part of a double steal in the eighth inning Sunday that led to the winning run in Miami's 3-2 victory over No. 28 Kent State.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
