Kent State's Gabby Wedding final MAC Women's Golfer of the Week

    Kent State's Gabby Wedding (So., Wilmington, Ohio), this week's MAC Women's Golfer of the Week, finished tied for fourth at the Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus with a 70-76-79=225. This marked the second consecutive week that Wedding was the top individual for the Golden Flashes. Wedding finished ahead of No. 18 ranked Karen Dennison of Indiana State by three strokes. As a team, Kent State finished second only behind host Ohio State.

    Additional Nominees
    Ball State's Carmen Bodine (Fr., Martinsville, Ind.) led the Cardinals with an 80-78=158 at the Illini Spring Classic. Bodine finished 12th out of 50 golfers. The 12th-place showing was her second best finish of the spring and her round of 78 was her lowest score of the spring season.

    Bowling Green's Jenny Schnipke (Jr., Kalida, Ohio) led all Falcons with a three-round score of 234, good enough for a tie for 16th place at the Lady Buckeye Invitational.

    Toledo's Katie Schmidt (Sr., Columbus, Ohio) led the Rockets with a two day total of 236 (79-80-77) at the Lady Buckeye Invitational.

    MAC Notes
    The fifth Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Walden Ponds in Hamilton, Ohio. Kent State University is the defending champion and has won the previous four titles. Martina Gillen of Kent State returns to defend her medalist title. Tee times are 8 a.m. all three days on the par 72 course.

    Marshall will be participating in its first ever MAC Championship as the Thundering Herd program is in its first season after being brought back as a collegiate sport.

    In addition to medalist Martina Gillen, top 10 finishers at last year's championship returning are Gabby Wedding (Kent State, fourth), Sara Boogard (Toledo, tied-sixth), Jenny Schnipke (Bowling Green, tied-sixth), Diana Rubin (Ohio, ninth) and Breanne Hall (Toledo, 10th).

    MAC individual stroke average leaders going into the tournament has Kent State competitors in the top three positions with Veronique Drouin (75.44), Martina Gillen (76.09) and Gabby Wedding (76.38) listed. Western Michigan's Erica Bienek is fourth (76.63) and Toledo's Breanne Hall is fifth (77.50).
