Kent State women's golf team advances to NCAA Championship

The Kent State University women's golf team had a runner-up finish at the 2003 NCAA Central Regional held May 8-10 at Lincoln, Neb. The Golden Flashes shot 298-297-322=917 to finish second behind the regional champs University of California (292-292-313=892). With the finish, KSU will make its second appearance in the NCAA Championships in three seasons.

Senior Veronique Drouin (St. Agnes, Quebec/Davie {Fla.} Academy) shot rounds of 76-73-77=226, tying for ninth place. Junior Martina Gillen (Dublin, Ireland/Maryfield College) tied for 12th with rounds of 70-79-78=227. Sophomore Gabby Wedding (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington)fired rounds of 76-72-83=231. Freshman Becky Wood (Derbyshire, England/Glossopdale C.C.) finished tied for 37th, while fellow classmate Katie Williams (Cambridge, Ontario/Galt Collegiate) tied for 91st.

The Kent State women's golf team, under the direction of Mike Morrow, will compete in the 2003 NCAA Championships May 20-23, in West Lafayette, Ind.
