MAC Announces Weekly Gymnastics Awards

Gymnast of the Week:


Erica Gilkerson
Ball State

Senior ? North Branch, Minn./North Branch

Gilkerson helped the Cardinals to their first win of the season over Illinois-Chicago Satruday afternoon. Gilkerson managed career high performances on the balance beam with a 9.800 and on floor with a 9.875. Gilkerson placed first on both the beam and floor events.


Other Nominations:


Breanne Guy, Bowling Green
Guy had a amanzing weekend for the Orange and Brown. She tied her career best on bars and set a new career best in the all-around wtih a score of 38.900. Her score on vault was her fourth highest on the season and while her score on beam was her second highest. Her score of 9.7 on floor is her third highest on the year.


Erin Grigg, Eastern Michigan University
Grigg won the all-around with a score of 38.825 in EMU's Eagle Invitational win. She was second in the vault, third in the uneven parallel bars, fourth on the beam and 10th in floor exercise.



Specialist of the Week:


Duyen Zu Vuong
Eastern Michigan
Junior ? Ottawa, Ontario/DelaSalle

Vuong set or tied her season-high mark in three events, helping lead the Eagles to a first place finish at this past weekend's Eagle Invitational, featuring the Air Force Academy, Illinois State University and Northern Illinois University. She won medalist honors on the vault with a 9.825 and on the uneven bars with a 9.700.


 Other Nominations:


Katie Simon, Central Michigan
The sophomore led CMU to a second place finish at the NC State with a pair of top five finishes. Simon placed first on vault with a 9.800 and took fourth on floor with another 9.800. Both Simon's scores were team highs and her score on floor matched a season-high.


Lexi Psichopaidas, Bowling Green
Lexi had a great weekend for the Falcons. She competed on the bars and scored the highest of her team at 9.625. This score crushes her previous career best at 9.475.
