After winning the MAC Championship two weeks ago, senior captain Corey Nowitzke (Monroe, Mich.- Monroe) continued his winning streak, capturing first place in the individual competition here at the NCAA Regionals hosted by Bowling Green State University.Nowitzke's time of 30:57.94 in the 10k event was just enough to beat out the second place finisher, Scott Overall from Butler University (31:01.17).
When asked how he felt about the race and his win, Nowitzke said that he felt really good about the win but was not expecting to win after a slow start with wet conditions. He made sure to stay near the front and at the end of the race he pushed hard and was able to get the win.
The Eagles fifth place finish (137 points) puts them in the same position as last season (5th, 162 points). The only teams with a higher finish than the Eagles were the University of Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Butler University and Michigan State University.
Sophomore Josh Perrin (Hillsdale, Mich.- Hillsdale) finished second among Eagles' runners with a time of 31:41.93.
Nowitzke will now head to Terre Haute, Ind. for the NCAA Championships. The event will be held Monday, November 20 at 10a.m
