Men's Swimmer of the Week
Andrew Henry, Eastern Michigan University, Sophomore
Eastern Michigan University sophomore Andrew Henry swam in six events in the Eagles’ win in the EMU Invitational, Dec. 6-7. The Gardner, N.C. native won the 400 IM with a time of 4:03.31 and also posted a season-best time in the 200 IM, touching in at 1:52.60. His performance in the 400 freestyle relay led to another first-place finish for the Green and White, and he was a part of the 400 medley relay team that allowed the Eagles to come from behind Oakland University in the final event to win the meet.
Women's Swimmer of the Week
Hannah Raspopovich, Akron, Sophomore
Sophomore Hannah Raspopovich had a record-setting performance for the Zips in individual and team relay events at the 2013 Zippy Invitational this past weekend. On Friday, Raspopovich registered a first place time of 22.79, which set both a Zippy Invitational record and a personal best time. Then on Saturday in the second day of the Zippy, Raspopovich was a crucial member of the program record breaking 200 medley relay team at a time of 1:42.32. The previous record of 1:42.80 was set in the 2009-10 season. The 200 medley relay time on Saturday is also a Zippy Invitational record. Raspopovich wrapped up the Zippy Invite on Sunday with a second place finish in the 100 freestyle at a time of 50.72, a personal best.
Bridgette Ruehl, Ball State, Senior
Ruehl remained undefeated in the breaststroke finals after claiming two wins at the Miami Invitational. The Lowell, Ind., native managed season-best times in both her events and the times set meet records. The 2013 MAC Champion finished with a time of 1:01.53 in the 100 breast and a 2:12.61 in the 200 breast – both times are the fastest in the MAC so far this season. Ruehl was also a member of the 200 and 400 medley relays that finished with a season-best times of 1:45.21 and 3:49.42, respectively.
Beth Rogers, University of Toledo, Senior
Beth Rogers finished this weekend’s Zippy Invitational in Akron with four top-three finishes, including a win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.18. Rogers helped both the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:35.34) and 400-yard medley relay (3:49.43) to second-place finishes and placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.50. She also finished fifth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:45.66 and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.02.
Monica Dorszewski, Eastern Michigan University, Junior
Junior swimmer Monica Dorszewski swam in six events for the Eagles’ second-place finish at the EMU Invitational, Dec. 6-7. The Palatine, Ill. Native placed in the top-three in five of her events, highlighted by her winning finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.37. She also grabbed a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 breaststroke and as a part of the 800 freestyle relay team.
