ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University volleyball team (27-5) will open the 2013 NCAA Championship in Lexington, Ky., where the Bobcats will take on Michigan State (21-11) on Friday, December 6 at 5 p.m.
Ohio is part of a four-team pool in the Bluegrass State that also includes Duquesne and No. 15 seed/host Kentucky. The Green & White are 0-2 all-time against the Spartans. The Bobcats are 5-8 all time in the NCAA Championship in eight all-time appearances.
The Bobcats reached the NCAA Second Round in consecutive seasons under head coach Ryan Theis (2009, 2010) and have earned a berth four times during Theis' tenure. Ohio reached the NCAA Sweet 16 during the 2005 campaign.
Ohio put together one of the best regular seasons in recent memory in 2013. The Bobcats started the season 10-1 for the first time since 1995 en route to a 27-5 mark that included a 14-2 record in league play. Ohio won its eighth MAC Tournament title and eighth MAC regular season crown, marking just the sixth time in program history that Ohio won both titles in the same season.
