MAC Announces Gymnast and Specialist of the Week

Gymnast of the Week 
Khadijah Hudson, Eastern Michigan
Freshman, Hebron, Ky. / Conner
After sitting out due to having the flu, March 1, against Northern Illinois, Eastern Michigan University freshman Khadijah Hudson put up a career-best performance against Southeast Missouri State, March 3. Hudson won the all-around competition with a 39.175, tying for the third-best mark in EMU history. The judges awarded Hudson a career-high 9.875 on the floor for a third place finish and the 10th highest mark in school history while also leading the Eagles on the bars with a 9.800, a career-high. The freshman phenom also tallied a 9.825 for a third-place tie on the vault, a mark that also tied her personal best. To round out her all around performance, the Hebron, Ky. native finished sixth on the beam with 9.675.

Specialist of the Week 
Amanda Fuller,  Eastern Michigan 
Senior, Hamilton, Ont. / St. Mary's
Amanda Fuller had an impressive weekend on the vault and floor exercise for the Eagles. Fuller recorded a 9.800 or better in each of the four events she competed in. Against Northern Illinois, March 1, she tallied scores of 9.800 to finish runner-up and third place on the floor and vault, respectively. The Hamilton, Ont. native stepped up her routines, March 3, against Southeast Missouri State, recording career-highs on both the vault and floor with a 9.825 in each event.

Brittany Petzold, Central Michigan
Junior, Shelby Township, Mich./ Eisenhower HS
Junior Brittany Petzold posted the highest score in the MAC this season in the all-around, a 39.400, to lead CMU to a 196.125-194.500 home win over Bowling Green. The defending MAC all-around champion was superb versus the Falcons, winning a share of three titles. Petzold tied for first in the vault (9.875), the uneven bars (9.875), and the floor exercise (9.850). All four of her event scores were season bests and her vault and uneven bars scores at least tied a career high. The all-around win was Petzold’s third in four attempts this season and her second consecutive. 
 
Marie Case, Kent State
Junior, Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep/Lakettes
Helped lead Kent State to victory over Ball State 196.250-192.100, a new season-high for the Golden Flashes'. Case scored a 9.800 on uneven bars, earning her a third place finish only behind her two Kent State teammates. On the balance beam she stepped up and helped the Flashes' bring in yet another top two finish, but her best performance of the night came from the floor. Case earned herself a 9.925, just shy of her career-best and took the top honor on the event.  
 
Kim Gotlund, Northern Illinois
Junior, Wadsworth, Illinois/Warren Township HS
won the floor exercise and all-around versus Eastern Michigan, helping lead the Huskies to their highest team score of the season.  Gotlund tied her season-best vault with a 9.725 and scored a 9.725 on balance beam to tie for fourth on that event.  Gotlund’s score of 9.825 was her second-best floor mark of the year behind only last week’s 9.850 as she won floor for the first time in her career.  
 
Kayla Weber, Western Michigan 
Freshman, Ann Arbor, Mich. / Plymouth
Freshman Kayla Weber had two top five finishes against UIC Saturday, taking first on the balance beam with a 9.800 and fourth on vault with a 9.775. She was WMU’s lone all-arounder, totaling a 38.175. She also scored a 9.650 on the uneven bars and 8.950 on the floor exercise

Kirsten Petzold, Central Michigan
Freshman, 
Shelby Township, Mich./ Eisenhower HS
Freshman Kirsten Petzold was key in helping CMU tally a meet-high event score in its 196.125-194.500 win over Bowling Green. Petzold scored a 9.850 to finish third in the event, contributing to the Chippewas’ 49.250 team total. Petzold has been a cornerstone of the CMU vault line-up in her rookie campaign, competing in the event in every meet, earning four top three finishes, including one title. 
 
Rachel Guida, Kent State
Senior, Cumberland, R.I./Brestyan's Gymnastics
Competed in two events for Kent State in their season-high win over Ball State 196.250-192.100. Guida lead the way on bars scoring a phenomenal 9.925, finally eclipsing her previous career-high 9.900 she had come so close to beating all season long and helping the Flashes' sweep all three top spots on the event. She also took part in the vault line-up, scoring a 9.775 and helping earn herself one of the five finishes for Kent State in the top 10 on the event. 
 
Jaelyn Olsen, Northern Illinois
Freshman, Bethany, Okla./Putnam City West HS
Won vault for the third time this season with a 9.825 mark on vault versus Eastern Michigan.  The score tied her second-best vault mark of the year. On the season, Olsen is averaging a 9.778 on vault with scores of 9.800 or higher in five of NIU’s eight meets. NIU recorded its season-best team total on vault in the meet, scoring 48.700.  
 
Jessi Buis, Western Michigan
Freshman, Holland, Mich. /West Ottawa
Freshman Jessi Buis competed on two events for Western Michigan at UIC Saturday. Buis won the vault with a 9.850 and placed fourth on the balance beam with a 9.650. The 9.850 on vault tied a career high.
