• Akron will play host to North Dakota State in the Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters event on ESPN2 on Friday night. The Zips extended their winning streak to 17 games with a 67-50 win over Bowling Green at the JAR on Feb. 16. In addition to extending the nation’s longest winning streak, Akron extended its MAC and home winning streaks to 13 games.
Akron’s 12-0 start is the best in program history since joining the MAC during the 1992-93 campaign. UA’s 12-0 start tied the 1957-58 Miami (Ohio) squad for the best league start ever.
The Zips received votes in the USA TODAY Coaches (19) and AP (16) polls. Both tallies are the highest point totals, respectively, in each poll in program history.
Akron’s 17-game winning streak is tied for the longest active winning streak in the nation (Memphis) and is tied for the second-longest by any program this season (Kansas, 18). It is also the Zips’ first win streak of 17 or more games since 1958-59 (21-straight).
UA’s current run is the first 17-game winning streak in the MAC since Kent State won 21-straight during the 2001-02 campaign.
During their 17-game winning streak, the Zips are out-scoring their opponents by 14.2 points/game and hold a +9.4 rebounding advantage. UA is shooting 45.9 percent and has held at least a share of the lead for 548:42 out of the last 680:00 minutes (80.7 percent).
Akron is one of 16 teams with four or fewer losses and just one of six teams still undefeated in conference
