Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Vanessa Clerveaux, Eastern Michigan, Hurdles/Sprints
Freshman, Brockton, Mass. (Brockton)
Vanessa Clerveaux continued her strong debut season for Eastern Michigan with two victories at the Silverston Invitational, Feb. 16, winning the 60-meter dash in 7.60 along with the 60-meter hurdles in 8.30, a personal-best for the freshman and the third best mark in EMU history.
Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Tyshaun Peoples, Akron, Hurdles
Senior, Cleveland, Ohio (Glenville HS)
Tyshaun Peoples was a double winner at the Zips Invitational last Friday night, claiming first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.96 and long jump with a mark of 23-10.25. Peoples' time in the 60mH represents the top mark recorded in the MAC in 2013 and a season high for the two-time league hurdle champion.

Brittany Funk, Akron, Weight Throw
Junior, Jeromesville, Ohio (Hillsdale HS)
Brittany Funk cruised to an easy win the women's weight throw last Friday night at the Zips Invitational with a personal-record toss of 67-06.25. On the strength of that throw, Funk jumped into the top 15 nationally, currently ranked 14th as an individual in Division I, and won the event by more than six full feet. In doing so, she surpassed her previous personal (66-09.25) best by nine inches.
Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Joe Wesley, Akron, Pole Vault
Senior, Marine City, Mich. (Marine City HS)
Joe Wesley captured his first win of the season in the men's pole vault Friday night at the Zips Invitational with a personal-record jump of 17-09.25. His huge mark ranks him 10th in the country shattered his previous career best by six-and-a-quarter inches (17-03.00). It is also the second-best vault in the MAC this season.
Shante’ White, Buffalo, Throws
Senior, Syracuse, NY (Henninger)
At the Cornell Denault Invitational, Shante’ White lead the Bulls to the top three spots in the women’s weight throw. White won the event at 62-10 (19.15m), just shy of her season-ebst performance of 63-6 (19.35m), which she posted on Jan. 26. White ranks third in the weight throw heading into this week’s MAC Indoor Championships.
Tatijana Jacobson, Eastern Michigan, High Jump
Senior, Woodville, Ohio (Woodmore)
Eastern Michigan University’s Tatijana Jacobson leaped 5-feet 10.75-inches to take runner-up in the high jump at the Silverston Invitational, Feb. 16.
Keri Dantley, Kent State, Triple Jump
Senior, Imperial, Pa. (West Allegheny)
Senior Keri Dantley’s mark of 40’-11.50” claimed the top spot in the triple jump at the Kent State Tune Up and ranks second in the conference this season. It was also a personal-best jump for Dantley, allowing her to move to sixth all-time at Kent State in the event.
Sidra Sherrill, Northern Illinois, Shot Put
Sophomore, Fort Wayne, Ind. (Northrop HS)
Sherrill posted a strong showing in the shot put at the Ball State Quadrangular Friday, placing fourth with a mark of 46-06.75 (14.19m). The toss was her second-best mark of the indoor season and helped her score a crucial four points to solidify NIU's second place team finish.
Juli Accurso, Ohio, Distance
Junior, Casstown, Ohio (Miami East)
Junior Juli Accurso captured the one mile run title at the Buckeye Tune-Up Friday in Columbus, Ohio. Accurso crossed the finish line in 4:53.33 and automatically qualified for the event in this weekend’s MAC Indoor Championships with her time. It was the second-fastest time in the mile for an Ohio student-athlete this season and the third-best time among all MAC competitors.
Iris Campbell, Western Michigan
Senior, Emmett, Mich. (Yale HS)
Campbell racked up a total of 23 points to help Western Michigan win its ninth straight Ball State Quad meet. Campbell took second in both the 60 meter hurdles and the 60 meter dash. Her 60 dash time of 7.69 seconds registered as the fifth best all-time on WMU's performance list. Campbell also took first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.09 seconds.
Craig Howard, Buffalo, Multis
Sophomore, Dewittsville, NY (Chautauqua Lake)
At the Cornell Denault Invitational, Craig Howard broke the UB record in winning the men's pole vault. Howard cleared 16-0.75 (4.90m) to win the event. Howard is the only Bull clear 16 feet indoors. He broke Daniel Reynolds’ mark of 15-9.25 (4.81m) set last season.
Ryan Brumfield, Eastern Michigan, Jumps
Sophomore, Chester Springs, Pa. (Owen J. Robert)
Eastern Michigan University two-sport athlete Ryan Brumfield led the Eagles with two wins at the Silverston Invitational, Feb. 16, taking the high jump with a leap of 6-feet 6-inches along with a season-best 22-feet 1-inch leap in the long jump.
Cody Jones, Kent State, High Jump
Freshman, Canton, Ohio (Glen Oak)
Freshman Cody Jones cleared 6’-09.00” to claim the top spot in the high jump at the Kent State Tune Up. Jones’ mark ranks sixth in the MAC and is the best jump of his collegiate career. Shauniece Steele, Akron, Sprints Junior, Cincinnati, Ohio (Walnut Hills HS) Shauniece Steele won the 400-meter dash last Friday night at the Zips Invitational, crossing the finish line in 55.42. It was more than three full seconds faster than the next closest competitor and just missed the school's all-time top five performance list.
Katie Reiser, Kent State, Sprints
Junior, Wayne, Ohio (Elmwood)
Junior Katie Reiser blazed her way to Kent State history by recording a school record 7.50 to win the 60-meter dash at the Kent State Tune Up. Her time is the fastest in the conference this year. Reiser ran a 7.57 in the prelims, which was the conference’s best time before her record-setting performance in the finals.
Janay Mitchell, Northern Illinois, Sprints
Senior, Teaneck, N.J. (Teaneck HS)
Mitchell put forth a dominant performance at Friday's Ball State Quadrangular. The senior won the 60 meters in convincing fashion, leading wire-to-wire for the event title. After running 7.59 in the prelims, Mitchell blew away the competition in the finals with a time of 7.57 - 12-hundredths of a second better than Western Michigan's Iris Campbell. In the 200 meters, Mitchell ran a season-best time of 25.42 to take second place.
Andrea Hiler, Western Michigan, Throws
Junior, Watervliet, Mich. (Watervliet HS)
Hiler won the shot put and took sixth in the weight throw to help Western Michigan win its ninth straight Ball State Quad meet. Hiler took first in the shot put with a distance of 48 feet, 8.75 inches and tossed 53 feet, 9.25 inches in the weight throw. Her shot put distance registered second all-time on WMU's performance list.
Matthew Williams, Eastern Michigan, Sprints
Freshman, Moreno Valley, Cali. (Vista Del Lago)
Eastern Michigan University’s Matthew Williams crossed the finish line first in the 200-meter dash at the Silverston Invitational, Feb. 16. The freshman’s 21.74 was a career-best as he lead the Eagles to a clean sweep of the top three spots in the race.
Brandon Bailey, Kent State, Sprints
Senior, Pittsburgh, Pa. (Penn Hills)
Senior Brandon Bailey had a busy day on the track at Saturday’s Kent State Tune Up, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash. Bailey clocked a 6.88 in the finals of the 60-meter dash, which is fifth in the conference this year and ninth in Kent State history. He also claimed a pair of third-place finishes in the 200-meter dash and 400-meter dash. Bailey ran a 21.87 in the 200 and a 48.41 in the 400, which ranks third in the conference.
