Cleveland, Ohio -- The Mid-American Conference has announced today that the upcoming men's basketball game between Miami and Akron has been selected for the conference's national February basketball television package on ESPNU.
First-year Miami Head Coach John Cooper and the RedHawks will host Akron Head Coach Keith Dambrot and the Zips in a MAC East Division contest on Saturday, February 9th at 1 p.m. ET.
The RedHawks (7-8, 2-1 MAC) seek to win three straight for the first time this season and try to earn the program's 600th MAC win when they face off against Eastern Michigan today. Entering the week, two RedHawks rank among national statistical leaders according to the NCAA. Junior guard Quinten Rollins ranked 20th nationally in assist/turnover ratio (2.91) and 37th in steals (2.21). Junior guard Allen Roberts ranked 44th nationally in free-throw percentage (.868). As a team, Miami ranked 45th nationally in steals (8.9). Roberts leads the RedHawks with 13.3 ppg.
Akron (12-4, 3-0 MAC) is currently riding an eight-game winning streak, which is tied for the eighth-longest active winning streak in the nation (games through Jan. 17). During their eight-game winning streak, the Zips are out-scoring their opponents by 18.9 points/game and hold a +11.6 rebounding advantage. UA is shooting 46.8 percent and has held at least a share of the lead for 299:11 out of the last 320:00 minutes (93.5 percent).
Mid-American Conference league play continues today as all 12 teams take the hardwood. Today’s television games include Akron at Kent State (3 p.m., ESPNU) & Toledo at Ohio (6 p.m., STO).
