Cleveland, Ohio -- The Mid-American Conference has announced today that the upcoming men's basketball game between Akron and Ohio has been selected for the conference's national February basketball television package on ESPNU.
Akron Head Coach Keith Dambrot and the Zips will host Ohio Head Coach Jim Christian and the Bobcats in a MAC East Division showdown on Saturday, February 2nd at 5 p.m. ET.
Akron (10-4, 1-0 MAC) is currently on a six-game winning streak after opening up conference play with a 65-43 win over Western Michigan. During their six-game winning streak, the Zips are out-scoring their opponents by 21.5 points/game and hold a +14.8 rebounding advantage. UA is shooting 47.5 percent while holding opponents to just 35.0 percent shooting. UA has held at least a share of the lead for 232:42 out of the last 240 minutes (97.0 percent).
Ohio (10-5, 1-0 MAC) has won two straight games after defeating Buffalo in the conference opener on Wednesday night, 86-68. D.J. Cooper, one of the most decorated players in the history of Ohio men’s basketball, is in the midst of a stellar senior season for the Bobcats. The Chicago, Ill., native ranks third in the nation in assists per game (8.4) and leads the ‘Cats with 14.6 points and 1.8 steals per contest. He has led the team in assists in 13-of-15 games on the year and has posted at least 10 assists on six occasions.
Mid-American Conference league play continues this Saturday as all 12 teams take the hardwood.
