MAC Gymnastics Weekend Preview

Ball State
Ball State's gymnastics team will compete at Iowa Friday at 7 p.m. at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
It marks the Cardinals second meet of the year, while Iowa will be opening its season. Ball State opened the season at Florida, which entered the meet ranked third in the nation.
Iowa made a fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Regionals last season.
Senior Brittney Emmons led the Cardinals at Florida with a second place finish in the all-around after posting a 38.400 mark.  Freshman Denasiha Christian led Ball State on vault, tying for fifth with a 9.800. Christian scored a 9.725 on the floor to place fifth, while Angie Hosbach finished sixth with a 9.700.
Senior Emily Wehrle led the Cardinals on the beam and finished sixth with a 9.525, while sophomore Brooklyn Schumacher placed seventh with a 9.450.
The Cardinals will open the home portion of its schedule Jan. 18, vs. Central Michigan in Irving Gym at Ball State's Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team hosts its second meet of the season Saturday in Anderson Arena, as the Falcons take on Texas Woman's University at 4 p.m.  
The Falcons are coming off a loss to No. 14 Ohio State in last weekend's season opener.  The team posted a score of 192.200 - the highest score to start the season since 2004.  Jamilah Ali led the Falcons, posting the highest vault score in the Mid-American Conference (9.85), while also pitching in strong routines on beam (9.675) and floor (9.8).  On Wednesday, Ali was named MAC Gymnast of the Week for the first time in her career.
Texas Woman's University competes for the first time this season on Saturday, after finishing 2012 ranked No. 45 in the nation - three spots higher than the Falcons placed based on regional qualifying scores.
Central Michigan
MOUNT PLEASANT – The Central Michigan gymnastics team will compete at home for the final time in the month of January on Friday evening when it hosts New Hampshire for a 7 p.m. dual meet in McGuirk Arena.
Friday’s meet will serve as a “Welcome Back” event for CMU students returning from winter break, with double Chip Rewards points being awarded to those in attendance. Also, a PS3 will be raffled off. The CMU marketing staff will pass out raffle tickets with the winner to be announced later via the official Central Michigan gymnastics Twitter account (@CMUGymnastics). An autograph session in the concourse of McGuirk Arena will follow the meet. Anyone getting all of the gymnasts’ signatures from each of the post-meet autograph sessions this season will be eligible to get their photo taken with the team at the final competition (March 16 vs. Eastern Michigan).
Kent State
KENT, Ohio -- Kent State Gymnastics is set to start their regular season with a dual meet at Iowa State (1-0, 0-0) on Friday, January 11th at 6:30 p.m. Central Time.
The match will be the first competition for the preseason MAC favorite Golden Flashes since their appearance at Pittsburgh's Blue-Gold meet just over a month ago.
Standouts for the meet were senior Rachel Guida(Cumberland, R.I.) and freshman Katlin Isaacs (Mount Airy, N.C.). Guida turned in the highest score of the day on bars with a 9.800 while Isaacs finished first in the floor exercise with a showing of 9.800. Claiming the top spot for Kent State on the balance beam was sophomore Amiah Mims (Indianapolis, Ind.).
Northern Illinois

DeKALB, Ill. - Throughout the fall semester, the Northern Illinois women's gymnastics team has met its benchmarks and exceeded expectations while preparing for the 2013 season. On Sunday, NIU will get its first chance to put all the hours of hard work and training on display when the Huskies play host to Illinois State in their 2013 season opener at Victor E. Court in the NIU Convocation Center.
The meet begins at 1 p.m. as part of the first half of a Huskie doubleheader. At 3 p.m., the NIU women's basketball team takes on Ball State in the main bowl of the Convocation Center, and one ticket will be good for entry to both events. The meet, and every NIU gymna
Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan gymnastics team opens its 2013 schedule Saturday, Jan. 12, at Big Ten in-state rival Michigan State. The meet will take place at 4 p.m. at Jenison Field House.
Western Michigan finished the 2012 regular season with an 8-7, 4-2 Mid-American Conference record and closed out the year with a No. 39 national ranking. The Spartans posted an 8-5-1 record and finished the year ranked 32nd in the nation. Both teams received votes in the 2013 GymInfo preseason Top 25 poll.
WMU recorded its first and second ever program wins over Michigan State in 2011, defeating the Spartans, 192.050 to 191.850, Jan. 7, in East Lansing and 194.625 to 191.825, Feb. 6, in Kalamazoo. The Broncos and Spartans did not compete against one another last year.
Western Michigan returns 14 members from last year's squad, including seven seniors and four juniors. The Spartan lineup on the other hand is much younger, consisting of eight freshmen, four sophomores, four juniors and one senior.
The Broncos were picked to finish second in the MAC this season after finishing second in the regular season and third at the MAC Championships last year.
Western Michigan had one of its best seasons in program history in 2012, winning seven of its first eight dual meets. Five of the team's overall losses were to programs ranked in the top 25 in the nation.
Following Saturday's meet at Michigan State, Western Michigan jumps right into league competition with back-to-back MAC meets, hosting Eastern Michigan Jan. 20 and traveling to Kent State Jan. 25.
