Conference Play Opens Wednesday For MAC Women's Basketball

Central Michigan (6-7, 0-0 MAC) at Toledo (12-1, 0-0 MAC)
7 PM • Toledo leads 42-26

• Central Michigan will open the 2013 Mid-American Conference season with quite the test when it travels to John F. Savage Arena Thursday night to take on preseason favorite Toledo.  The Chippewas are seeking their first win at Savage Arena since a 60-48 victory January 18, 2006.
• UT begins MAC play in the midst of an 11-game win streak, sixth-longest unbeaten stretch in school history, and has equaled its best start in Toledo annals. The Midnight Blue & Gold also started out a season winning 12 of its first 13 games during the 1993-94 campaign.
Kent State (2-11, 0-0 MAC) at Bowling Green (9-4, 0-0 MAC)
7 PM • Bowling Green leads 41-28
• Kent State (2-11) enters Mid-American Conference play with a lot of momentum, after what was arguably their finest performance, a 73-55 win over Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 2.
• BGSU enters the 2012-13 MAC schedule with an all-time record of 362-147 (.711) in league regular-season contests ... the Falcons have the most conference wins and highest winning percentage of all league institutions, and BG leads the series with each of the other 11 schools.
Miami (8-5, 0-0 MAC) at Ball State (3-10, 0-0 MAC)
7 PM • Miami leads 39-19
• Miami is 19-12 all-time in MAC openers. Last season the RedHawks defeated Akron, 95-85 in overtime, to begin conference play. That was the game where Courtney Osborn scored a school-and-MAC record 48 points.
• BSU is looking to bounce back after losing its last non-conference game to Valparaiso by a score of 58-53 on Dec. 29.  The Cardinals enter today’s game with an overall record of 3-10.
Northern Illinois (5-8, 0-0 MAC) at Buffalo (2-11, 0-0 MAC)
7 PM • Northern Illinois leads 13-3
• This game will mark the Mid-American Conference season opener for both teams.  NIU is 6-13 all-time in MAC openers and 0-2 under Kathi Bennett.  The 16-game schedule will have NIU at home for five of the first eight games.
• The Bulls return to Alumni Arena for the start of Mid-American Conference play this evening when it hosts Northern Illinois.  Buffalo is opening MAC play against a West Division school for the first time since 1998-99, its first year in the league.  The Bulls are looking to get off to a strong start in conference play, hosting four of its first six league games.
Eastern Michigan (2-11, 0-0 MAC) at Western Michigan (4-9, 0-0 MAC)
7 PM • Eastern Michigan leads 41-30
• Eastern Michigan has had great success against other collegiate programs in the state of Michigan over the past 10 seasons. Since the beginning of the 2002-03 season, the Eagles are 43-17 (71.6 percent) against in-state rivals.
• Western Michigan opens MAC play with a 4-9 records following a loss to Temple on Monday.  WMU will host Eastern Michigan in the MAC opener followed by Miami on Sunday.
Akron (9-4, 0-0 MAC) at Ohio (5-7, 0-0 MAC)
7 PM • Ohio leads 34-14
• Akron is the only team in the Mid-American Conference to field multiple players inside the league’s top-10 in scoring, and it claims three out of the top four spots - Rachel Tecca (19.4 ppg), Hanna Luburgh (16.2 ppg) and Sina King (14.7 ppg).
• Ohio (5-7) snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon, picking up a 68-62 win at Xavier. Three Bobcats scored in double figures and the Green and White committed just seven turnovers while dishing out 13 assists.
