CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Akron women's basketball team made its grand return to the court Thursday night after two weeks without a game, breezing past Chicago State 86-45 in its last non-conference match up of the regular season.

UA (9-4) recorded a season-best .547 shooting percentage, connecting on 35-of-64 attempts from the field, and held Chicago State (1-14) to just nine first half points on the other side of the floor.

Sina King and Rachel Tecca set the tone for the Zips offensively, combining for half of Akron's total points. King finished two ticks shy of her career-high with 23 points, and Tecca followed with 20 on an 8-of-9 performance from the field and 4-of-5 at the free throw line.

Taylor Ruper also finished the night in double-figures, draining three 3-pointers and knocking down a pair of free throws for 11 points. Akron would see 11 players in the scoring column by the final buzzer, receiving 23 points from its bench.

The Zips scored on nine of their first 10 possessions of the game, putting up 12 unanswered points en route to capturing an 18-1 lead at the 14:40 mark.

Defensively, UA succeeded in holding Chicago State scoreless for nearly four minutes after the tip-off, and the Cougars did not pick up their first field goal of the night until 7:32 in the first half.

Akron ran away with its 41-9 halftime lead and never looked back, holding its largest advantage of 44 points with just over six minutes left to play in the game. UA has won the most non-conference games in a single season in the history of the program.

With the non-conference portion of its regular-season schedule now complete, the Zips will look ahead to opening up Mid-American Conference play when they travel to Ohio next Thursday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
