Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: December 10 – December 16, 2012
Ohio University Cody Walters (Wrestling)
Cody Walters (174 lbs, Redshirt Freshman, 3.117, Pre-Sport Management) had an incredible weekend at the 2012 Reno Tournament of Champions. The redshirt freshman entered the weekend as the No. 1 seed in the 174-pound class, and he lived up to his billing, winning five straight bouts to claim top honors at the tournament. Walters won one of his bouts in a dominating fashion, earning a 14-0 technical fall in his second action of the day. Entering the competition with a perfect 13-0 record, Walters kept up his stellar string of results and is now a spotless 18-0 on the year. The redshirt freshman helped pace Ohio to a seventh-place finish in the tournament field of 27 schools.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week’s competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference’s faculty athletic representatives.
