• Eastern Michigan heads 722 miles south to Jacksonville, Ala. to take on the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State University today. Tipoff between the Gamecocks and EMU Eagles is slated for 2 p.m. EMU kicked off the 2012-13 college basketball season ith a 66-52 victory over Rochester College. Three Eagles reached double digits as senior Derek Thompson ed the way with 14 points followed by 12 points each from redshirt junior Daylen Harrison and true freshman Ray Lee. Rochester’s Maynard led all scorers with 27 points. The Eagles shot 49.0 percent (25-for-51) from the floor, while hitting 33.3 percent (4-for-12) of their shots from beyond the arc...The Gamecocks opened their 2012-13 campaign Friday, Nov. 9, with a 93-63 win against the Reinhardt University Eagles.

• The Ball State men’s basketball team begins its 2012-13 season Sunday afternoon at Worthen Arena when it hosts Grambling State for a 2 p.m tipoff. BSU features a new look this season with eight newcomers (seven freshmen and one junior college transfer) joining six returning players on the active roster.Junior guard Jesse Berry, a preseason All-Mid-American Conference West Division selection, returns as the team’s leading scorer after averaging 9.7 points per game in the 2011-12 season. Ball State held opponents to an average of just 60.7 points per game last year to rank as the second-best scoring defense in the MAC...Grambling is coming off a 4-24 record in 2011-12, opened their season Friday at Cleveland State with a 92-49 loss. It was the first of 11 straight road games for Grambling State to open the season.
