To describe my Saturday in one word, would be very difficult. It was awesome, fun, different, eye-opening, and a great experience in itself. Saturday started off with hopes of a gorgeous morning and no rain, but sadly at points the rain was coming down in sheets. After arriving to Waldo Stadium and getting the WMU Press Box treatment (free food and drinks, Meeting Mat Kanan, Director of Media Relations for WMU Athletics, and many others). Seeing a different side of game day operations really opened my eyes to many more jobs that are there to those that want to work in athletics. When the rain subsided and the day became gorgeous, it was our time to head down onto the field to witness the game up close, take pictures, and Tweet!
Being on the field was just as exciting as being in the press box, but was probably my highlight of the day. Seeing NFL scouts, ESPN reporters, current NFL Wide Receiver Jordan White and getting a picture with him, and just being on the sidelines when the big plays happened (Desmond Bozeman fumble return for Touchdown) made the experience that much better. There is nothing that can really compare in my college career than this day.
Then to end day after a Bronco victory, being able to sit in on the press conference listening to coaches and players talk about the positives and negatives of the day brought an amazing experience to an end. This day couldn’t have gone any better than it did and it was a great experience to have a lasting memory of. Thanks to everyone I got to meet and gave up their time to just answer questions that I had, especially Jeremy Guy! If it wasn’t for him, I don’t know think the experience would have been the same!
My experience during the game was phenomenal. I met some pretty great people. Jordan White appeared at the game. He played for WMU and is now playing for the New York Jets! I would definitely encourage people to apply for this opportunity. Even if sports isn't your major, it is a great opportunity to represent your school and the MAC conference. The game was filled with highs and lows. It started off rainy and windy but then turned out to be all sunshine and nice weather. As we tweeted, more and more fans showed up. The power of the Internet is incredible. I think anyone who has a passion for sports and who represents their school with pride should definitely look into the social MAC tour. It is a great experience.
