Tuesday's Field Hockey Results
Ohio State 8, Kent State 2
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior midfield Rebecca Lee (Bathurst, Australia) gave Kent State field hockey a 1-0 edge just over ten minutes in, but Ohio State answered by posting an 8-2 victory Wednesday (Sept. 19) in non-conference action at Buckeye Varsity Field.
Lee scored her fifth goal of the 2012 season after receiving a pass at the top of the circle from freshman forward Karleigh Carlin (Drexel Hill, Pa.) to help the Golden Flashes (4-6) land the first punch.
The Buckeyes (5-3) struck back by tallying three goals over the final 12 minutes of the first half to take a two-goal edge into the break.
Ohio State extended its lead to three goals nine minutes into the second half, but Kent State answered a minute later after Lee dished to junior midfield Melanie Kahn (San Diego, Calif.) who scored from the left side of the cage to shave Ohio State's lead to 4-2 with just under 25 minutes to play.
That's as close as Kent State got, though, as the Buckeyes closed out the victory with four unanswered goals.
The Golden Flashes look to return to their winning ways this weekend at Murphy-Mellis Field. Kent State lifts the lid off of Mid-American Conference action by hosting Ohio Friday (Sept. 21) at 3 p.m. The Flashes close the weekend by stepping back out of conference play to battle Louisville Sunday (Sept. 23) at noon.
