MAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Danny Baraldi, Bowling Green, Midfielder
Sophomore, Canton, Ohio (Massillon Jackson)
Baraldi was named to the all-tournament team at the Coastal Carolina Univ. Invitational over the weekend. Scored two goals against the host school, #18-ranked Coastal Carolina, on the Chanticleers’ home field. Had the Falcons’ first two goals of the match in the 3-3 tie. The two-goal game was the first of Baraldi’s BGSU career. He now has team-leading totals of three goals and six points this season to date. Baraldi, who led the Falcons in scoring last fall, now has 24 points in 23 career matches. He has eight goals and eight assists as a Falcon.
Eric Stevenson, Akron, Midfielder
Junior, Columbus, Ohio (Worthington Christian HS)
Stevenson scored the game-winner in the 19th minute to lift the No. 6 University of Akron men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 10 Indiana at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament Friday in South Bend, Ind. The junior midfielder took a cross from Dillon Serna near the top of the box and skipped a liner across the goal, off the right post and into the net for his second game-winning strike of the young season. It was the Zips' third straight victory over the national powerhouse Hoosiers, whom UA out-shot 15-11 for the match.
Cleyon Brown, Hartwick, Forward
Senior, Kingston, Jamaica (Berkshire School)
Brown was named the 2012 Oneonta Mayor's Cup Jim Lennox Offensive Most Valuable Player after leading the tournament in scoring and helping the Hawks to a 2-0 showing this past weekend. He scored his first of the year in the second half of a 5-1 victory over St. Bonaventure on Friday night. On Sunday in a 3-0 win over NJIT, he registered the game-winning goal in the 36th minute and tacked on the Hawks' third goal in the 82nd minute. He leads the team in scoring with three goals and an assist for seven points.
Marco Lobo, Western Michigan, Midfielder
Junior, Caracas, Venezuela ( I.E.A.)
Marco Lobo scored two goals in Western Michigan's 4-1 win over Loyola-Chicago Saturday. He scored in the 63rd minute to stretch WMU's lead to 2-0 and then again with a laser at the edge of the box in the 87th minute to make the score 3-1. Lobo's goals were his MAC-leading third and fourth of the season. He also leads the MAC in points with nine. The win improved Western Michigan to 5-1-0 on the season. The Broncos were ranked No. 7 in the Great Lakes Region in today's NSCAA Poll.
Andy Bevin, West Virginia, Forward
Sophomore, Napier, New Zealand
Bevin led the Mountaineers with a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over Oakland on Sunday at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Bevin ended a 333 minute team scoring drought with his goal in the fourth minute of the match to give WVU the 1-0 lead. The goal was the first of the year for Bevin, who scored seven in 2011. Bevin then assisted on the final goal of the game to fellow New Zealander Craig Stephens.
