YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) —  Eastern Michigan University was honored as one of the 67 teams that received academic recognition from the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches, as they wrapped up the 2011-12 season last week with their announcement of the Scholastic All-Americans Teams and Individuals.
As a team Eastern placed 10th in the nation with a combined team GPA of 3.5239.  Only Western Michigan University placed higher from the Mid-American Conference, as the Broncos turned in a 3.5335, which was good enough for ninth nationally.
On their way to ranking 10th in the country, 12 Eagle gymnasts were honored as scholastic All-Americans.  Stacie Wood led the way obtaining a 4.00, and being one of 40 gymnasts to do so during the 2011-12 season.  Wood was joined by teammates Kelli Fisher, Amanda Fuller, Alexandra Lekson, Nikki Paterson, Anna Willette and Kristen Yourick as Eagles that obtained GPA's above 3.80.
Rounding out the Eagles that received honors include Shawna Ciaramella, Camille Cicchini, Kristina Kurkmilis, Paulina Miller and Sabrina Thomas, as all finished with above a 3.5 individual GPA.
The 12 All-Americans helped fill out a 471 student-athlete field that was made up of all three divisions.
