Updated 8/29/2012

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Eastern Michigan men's and Toledo women's cross country teams were picked to repeat as champions at this year’s 2012 MAC Cross Country championships as voted on by the league's head cross country coaches.

Last season, Eastern Michigan claimed its 16th Men's Championship title in school history at Pine View Golf Club in Muncie, Ind. at Muncie Elks Country Club. Eastern Michigan scored a total of 68 points in the meet and Head Coach John Goodridge was named the MAC Men's Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season and the seventh time in his career.
Eastern Michigan was followed by Central Michigan in second place, while Kent State, Akron and Buffalo rounded out the top five spots. Toledo was picked to finish sixth, while Miami was tabbed to finish seventh. Ohio and Bowling Green claimed the eighth and ninth spots in this year’s poll, respectively.

The Toledo women's cross country team scored 483 points to conclude the 2011 season with an impressive 21st-place finish in the NCAA Championship race on Monday, Nov. 21. The national rank of 21st is a new high in program history, and the highest finish ever recorded by a Mid-American Conference program. After securing its second MAC title in a row, and fourth in program history, Toledo entered the Great Lakes Region championship meet listed in the "Others Receiving Votes" section of the national coaches poll. The team's third-place finish at the regional meet garnered its second-consecutive at-large bid to the NCAAs, and marked the second time in program history that the entire team qualified for the national meet. UT went into the NCAA Championships ranked 24th in the county.
Ohio was picked to finish in second place on the women's side, while Central Michigan was tabbed to finish third. Miami, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan filled out the top six spots in this year's poll. Akron (seventh), Northern Illinois (eighth), Buffalo (ninth), Kent State (10th), Ball State (11th) and Bowling Green (12th) rounded out the women's poll.
The 2012 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Buffalo, will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012.
