Blue Ribbon Analysis
Head Coach: Terry Bowden (West Virginia, '78)
2011 Overall/Conference Record: 1-11 (0-8 MAC)
Offense Starters Returning/Lost: 7/4
Defense Starters Returning/Lost: 6/6
The first thing that struck Bowden about how his new charges was how deperately they were looking for leadership. In most regime changes in which a coach leaves, the players carry some feeling of resentment towards the administration for taking their coach away and to the new caoch for shaking up the paradigm.
But this group, Bowden said, had suffered too much to cling to those kind of feelings. Seven of their losses last season came by 32 points or more and they dropped their last four games by a combined score of 189-35.

So the Zips wanted someone to believe in, and Bowden fit the bill, having posted an undefeated season at Auburn - even if it was back in 1993 - and having won at all four of his previous stops.

Bowden believe they're more capable than they actually realize. He isn't looking to make a total roster overhaul, he said, because he believe there are a number of players he can use.

The Zips were among the worst teams in the MAC in just about every conceivable category last season, but mentality does matter and morale could help in turning this team around.

"They want to win," Bowden said. "They really want to win."
