Elliott Charles Named as Assistant Commissioner for Compliance

MAC NAMES ELLIOTT CHARLES AS ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER FOR COMPLIANCE

Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced today the addition of Elliott Charles as Assistant Commissioner for Compliance. Charles brings over five years of experience in athletics compliance and academic services in this newly created position for the conference office.

Beginning in the 2012-13 academic year, the conference office made the commitment to expand staffing and resources to support university membership in the areas eligibility, compliance, education and student-athlete academic services.

Charles joins the MAC from the University of Alabama where he served last season as Assistant Director of Athletic Compliance. In Tuscaloosa, Ala., Charles supervised the monitoring of recruiting, eligibility and financial aid, and implemented compliance policies and procedures.

Prior to Alabama, Charles also worked at Northern Illinois University for two seasons as Compliance Coordinator. In DeKalb, Ill., Charles monitored recruitment, determined eligibility of current and prospective student-athletes, managed NCAA procedures, rules and education and developed student service life skills programs and initiatives.

Charles worked as Director of Marketing for DR&M Builders, Inc. from Sept. 2008 to Jan. 2010, where he created marketing and sales plans and managed all interactive and creative web/media production.

Charles received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from the University of South Florida in 2005. He also earned a Master of Science in Sport Management from Illinois State University in 2007 and his Master of Business Administration from Northern Illinois University in 2012.
