Theunssien's Walk-Off Puts Chippewas in MAC Semifinal Game

AVON, Ohio – One day after setting Central Michigan’s career hits record, Nate Theunissen blasted a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth to give the Chippewas a 6-4 victory over Eastern Michigan, in the second elimination game of the day.  

The homerun was the second of the day for Theunissen, who also had one in the seventh to tie the game at four.  

Eastern Michigan’s pitching staff set a single season school record collecting their 389th strikeout of the season. 

Central Michigan advances to face Miami tonight at approximately 7:30 PM, where Central will once again be facing elimination.  Eastern Michigan finishes their season following the loss with a record of 25-31.

Bottom 1: CMU 1, EMU 0
Central Michigan worked quickly to build a run following a leadoff hit by Tyler Hall.  Hall moved to second on a Jordan Dean sacrifice bunt, and scores on William Arnold’s single to right. 

Top 4: EMU 2, CMU 1
Tucker Rubino opened the fourth by reaching on an error, then moved to third on Brent Ohrman’s double.  Two batters later Sam Ott doubled down the right field line scoring Rubino and Ohrman.

Bottom 4: CMU 2, EMU 2
Jordan Adams hit a leadoff homerun to dead-center.

Top 6: EMU 3, CMU 2
Lee Longo reached in the sixth, and following a fielding error on a ball hit by Daniel Russell, a second consecutive fielding error on a ball hit by Jamie Simpson, allowed Longo to score.

Top 7: EMU 4, CMU 2
Ben Magsig walked on five pitches and advanced to second on a T. Rubino groundout.  The next batter, Brent Ohrman, put a single through the right side scoring Magsig.

Bottom 7: CMU 4, EMU 4
Will Arnold and Nate Theunissen hit back-to-back solo homeruns with two outs, to tie the game at four.

Bottom 9: CMU 6, EMU 4
After Arnold reached on a fielder’s choice, Theunissen hit his second homerun of the game to deep right-center.
