For the Golden Flashes, the late runs were well received by Kent State starting pitcher Ryan Bores, who threw 8.0 innings allowing three runs on nine hits and leaving with only a one run lead after eight.
It marks the second game in-a-row that Kent State has had a big last at-bat. Kent State put up five on Wednesday in the bottom half of the eighth before putting the eight spot up on Thursday in the top of the ninth.
For Western Michigan, Steve Laudicina pitched 6.0 strong only allowing three runs to a dangerous offense on seven hits. Troy Forton supplied some of the offense that had the Broncos in it late, with a leadoff homerun to put the Broncos up 3-1 in the sixth.
Kent State will wait to play the winner of the elimination game tomorrow morning at 4 PM between Western Michigan and Buffalo. The Western Michigan and Buffalo game will take place Friday morning at 9 AM.

A leadoff single by Vinnie Booker turned into the first Bronco run of the game, as Booker moved to second on Zach Thoma sac bunt, then to third on Jack Scanlon’s ground out to first. Ryan McMillin brought home Booker on a two-out single through the left side.
Bottom 4: Western Michigan 2, Kent State 0
Jared Kujawa sent a one-out single up the middle then advanced on an infield single to third by Andrew Sohn. Dan Shutes then beat out an infield single that scored Kujawa.
Top 5: Kent State 1, Western Michigan 2
Evan Campbell opened the fifth with a double to left center, and moved to third on a Jimmy Rider groundout. Campbell then tagged and scored on a line out to center by David Lyon.
Bottom 6: Western Michigan 3, Kent State 1
Western’s Troy Forton finished off the Broncos’ scoring, with a solo homerun to left.
Top 7: Kent State 4, Western Michigan 3
Kent State went on the offensive in the top of the seventh with a leadoff single by Campbell. Jimmy Rider then doubled down the left field line, moving Campbell to third. After Campbell was cut-down at home on Lyon’s fielder’s choice, Nick Hamilton sent a pinch-hit single between first and second scoring Rider. T.J. Sutton doubled to the right-center gap bringing home Roberts and Lyon.
Top 9: Kent State 12, Western Michigan 3
Nick Hamilton reached on an error with one out to start the long ninth for Kent State. Troy Summers came on for Hamilton and stole second, then advanced to third on a strike three wild pitch that allowed Sutton to get aboard. Sawyer Polen lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Summers. Alex Miklos singled to shortstop and a walked to Derek Toadvine loaded the bases. Campbell then brought in one run when he was hit by a pitch on the first pitch of the at-bat. After a RBI groundout by Rider that scored Miklos, and another walk to Lyon that loaded the bases, George Lyon blasted a grand slam to left to clear that bases. Summers then reached on an error that allowed him to go to second, and Sutton singled him home to close out the scoring.
