AVON, Ohio – Senior Nate Theunissen went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored on a historic afternoon for Central Michigan, as the Chippewas advanced in the first elimination game of the week, 4-3, over Toledo.  With Theunissen’s single in the top of the third inning, the designated hitter became the all-time hits leader in Central Michigan history, with 253.  

Starting pitcher Patrick Kaminska went 5.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits before turning it over to the bullpen.  Chippewa relievers worked the final 3.1, allowing only one run on one hit and striking out seven.  CMU closer, Jon Weaver came on with one down in the eighth and was perfect, needing only 16 pitches to sit-down the final five Rockets hitters, striking out three.

For Toledo, after allowing three runs in the top of the first, Matt Kuna settled in and worked the next 6.2 shutout innings allowing only four hits, and recording a career high 10 strikeouts.

The loss advances Central Michigan to face the loser of the Miami vs. Eastern Michigan tomorrow at 12:30 PM.  For Toledo, the loss concludes the west division champs season with a record of 30-27 in 2012.

Top 1: CMU 3, Toledo 0
A leadoff walk to Tyler Hall was the start of a big inning for the Chippewas, as Hall advanced to second on a balk and scored on a single to center by Will Arnold.  Arnold then scored from first on an RBI double to the wall in left by Nate Theunissen.  Next, Sam Russell singled down the left field line scoring Theunissen.

Bottom 6: Toledo 2, CMU 3
A two out error on a ball hit by Joe Corfman extended the inning as Corfman went to second.  Ben Hammer singled to left, scoring Corfman for Toledo’s first run.  After a Dan Zuchowski single sent Hammer to third, James Miglin drove Hammer in with a single to center.

Bottom 7: Toledo 3, CMU 3
Toledo managed to take advantage of another error in the seventh when Anthony Smith reached on a one-out throwing error.  Tyler Grogg pinch ran for Smith and advanced from first to third on a passed ball.  Grogg was brought home on an RBI single by Wes White.

Top 9: CMU 4, Toledo 3
Nine-hitter Pat MacKenzie opened the ninth with a leadoff walk on five pitches.  After a Hall bunt single and a Jordan Dean sac-bunt, Will Arnold lifted one to deep center that allowed MacKenzie to tag and score.
