Western Michigan’s Casey Webber opened up the 2012 Mid-American Conference Baseball tournament with a gem, throwing 7.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and getting the win to give the Broncos the first game of the tournament.

Western Michigan designated hitter Zach Thoma provided most of the offense for the Broncos, going 3-for-5 with a run scored and two doubles, and the eventual winning RBI in the seventh.

For Ohio, the defense was not kind to Bobcat pitching, committing five errors during the morning’s game.  Brent Choban threw 8.2 strong innings allowing four runs, three of which were earned, in his losing efforts.

Western Michigan advanced to face the winner of Kent State vs. Buffalo tomorrow at 4 PM.  Ohio will drop down and play an elimination game against the loser of the Golden Flashes and Bulls.
