Ben Curtis Kent

Curtis placed second at the First Energy Intercollegiate, just one
stroke behind medalist David Wagenseller of Ohio State. Curtis shot
rounds of 74-71-70 for a one-under par total of 215.
Other Top Performances
Ryan Chattin (BSU, Sr., Oaktown, Ind.) was Ball State's top finisher at
the First Energy Intercollegiate with a tie for 27th place. He shot
rounds of 75-76-75 for a 226 total.
Jon Smarrelli (BGSU, Jr., New Castle, Pa.) shot a season-low 68 in the
final round of the First Engergy Intercollegiate on Sunday, April 23.
He placed 12th individually, while the Falcons finished ninth as a
team. Smarrelli shot a three-round total of 222, averaging 74.00
strokes per round.
Tim Countryman (NIU, Sr., Dixon, Ill.) shot two round of 73 en route to
a three-round total of 225 and a 20th-place finish at the First Energy
Intercollegiate.
David Jones (Toledo, Fr., Derry, North Ireland) tied for 10th place at
the First Energy Intercollegiate, marking the first time he has led the
Rockets in his career. He shot a three-round score of 221 and set a new
personal low round of 70.
Team Notes
Bowling Green scored a 296 on the final day of the First Engergy
Intercollegiate at Firestone Country Club April 23. The round moved the
Falcons into ninth place at the 20-team event.
Kent faced a 21-stroke deficit in the final round at the First Energy
Intercollegiate, but managed a second-place finish behind host Ohio
State. The Golden Flashes recorded rounds of 304-290-280 for a
three-round total of 874 in the 20-team field. Kent was tied for second
place after Saturday's first two rounds and fired a tournament-best 280
in the final round to narrow the gap to five strokes behind Ohio State.
Miami improved from its 15th-place standing after the first two rounds
to a 12th place finish at the First Energy Intercollegiate. Lee Curry's
223-stroke (73-76-74), 13th-place tie led the RedHawks. Curry had led
Miami in four the RedHawks' seven spring tournaments.
Northern Illinois turned in its best performance of the season in the
final round of First Energy Intercollegiate. The Huskies cut 15 strokes
off their second-round score to finish with a 295, two strokes under
their season average. NIU tied for 15th place with MAC foe Ohio.
Ohio's Jeff Chadwell paced the Bobcats for the first time this season
with a three-round score of 229 at the First Energy Intercollegiate.
The Bobcats finished the tournament in a tie for 15th place with
Northern Illinois. Ohio returns to action April 28-29 at the Penn
State/Rutherford Intercollegiate.
