Since joining the team in mid-season, Hawkins is 7-0 at No. 1 singles and 7-0 at No. 1 doubles
(with Lisa D'Amelio). This past week, she defeated Marshall's Anna Mitina (4-6, 7-5, 6-3) as
EMU handed the Thundering Herd its first league loss in a 5-2 match. Hawkins also defeated Miami's
Kadija Richards (6-2, 6-0), handing the RedHawks' No. 1 player her first MAC loss of 2000. Hawkins
and D'Amelio won at No. 1 doubles, 8-5 versus Marshall and 8-1 against Miami.

Mitina helped Marshall earn a share of the league title, along with Western Michigan, and
secure the No. 1 seed for the MAC Championship with her performance in a 5-2 win over Miami.
At No. 1 doubles, Mitina teamed with Ana Ceretto for a 9-8 triumph over Ivona Grujic and Janet Baker.
At No. 1 singles, Mitina rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Kadjia Richards.

Ball State's Susie Miller (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa) was a perfect 4-0 with two 6-0 wins and
doubles triumphs of 8-0 against Toledo and 8-5 over Eastern Michigan ... Bowling Green's Meghan
Rhodes (Jr., Arlington Heights, Ill.) captured two 6-0 singles wins and went 2-0 in doubles as
the Falcons defeated Eastern Michigan and Toledo by indentical 5-2 scores ... Eastern Michigan's
Rebecca Hawkins (Fr., NSW, Australia) finished the regular-season in MAC play at 9-0 in singles
and 8-1 in doubles with two singles wins against Bowling Green and Ball State, and a doubles
triumph versus BGSU ... Miami's Janet Baker (Jr., Lexington, Ky.) finished off an undefeated
MAC regular-season at 6-0 with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1, comeback win over Marshall's Kelly Peller in
the RedHawks' 5-2 loss.
Notes
The Mid-American Conference regular season concluded with play on Saturday as the
10 teams warmed up for this week's championship to be hosted by Western Michigan University.
Host WMU and Marshall University earned the co-champion title as both teams compiled 8-1
league marks. The Thundering Herd received the No. 1 seed by virtue of their regular-season
win against the Broncos. WMU is the defending tournament champion.
The matches will be held at Sorensen Courts on the WMU campus. Should weather force the
competition indoors, the West Hills Athletic Club will be utilized.
