In MAC women's action on February 3rd, Western Michigan overcame a 15-point
halftime deficit to sink Eastern Michigan, 74-72, on a last second shot
by WMU's Brianne Gallert. The Broncos, who were led by a career-high 18
points from Gallert as well as 18 from Shelsea Erving, improved their
record to 11-9 overall and 8-1 in the league. Danielle Mueller added 13
points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while WMU also received 10 points
from Dionne Lassila. Eastern Michigan, which fell to 10-12 and 4-7, was
led by Kris Kachaturoff's 18 points off the bench.
In other action Buffalo won on the road at Ball State, 66-50. Tara
Perrier and Tiffany Bell paced the Bulls with 15 points each, while Bell
also pulled down 12 rebounds. Kim Kilpela also added 12 points and 11
rebounds for Buffalo, which improved to 16-5 and 6-4. Ball State (12-8,
5-4), which has dropped three straight, was led by Tamara Bowie and
Christy Jones, who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Akron won its second straight game with a 83-71 win at home against
Ohio. Cheryl Bowles led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-18
shooting, while Abby Hoy added 19 points and nine assists. Bowles also
added a game-high 13 rebounds for the Zips (7-13, 3-6), who had a 42-25
advantage on the boards. Katie Hank also chipped in 16 points and added
eight assists and six rebounds. Lori Moorman led Ohio (8-12, 3-6) with
18 points and 11 rebounds.
Six games are on tap for Saturday, highlighted by a pair of critical
games in the West Division. Western Michigan travels to Central
Michigan (1 p.m.), while Toledo hosts Ball State at 7 p.m. Other games
include Akron at Miami in the MAC Game of the Week on Fox Sports Net
Ohio (2 p.m.), Buffalo at Ohio (3 p.m.), Marshall at Kent (7 p.m.) and
Eastern Michigan hosting Northern Illinois (2:30 p.m.).
