Curtis placed fourth at the Kepler Cleveland Classic, hosted by Ohio
State. He has placed in the top-15 at all nine tournaments this
season. He shot a three-round total of 219 (71-73-75) for a three-over
par.
Other Top Performances
Brian Post (BSU, Sr., Rensselaer, Ind.) tied for seventh place at the
BSU Invitational. He shot three rounds of 72 for a total of 216 to lead
the Cardinals to the team title.
Jon Smarrelli (BGSU, Jr., New Castle, Pa.) recorded his third
consectutive top-13 finish at the BSU Invitational. His second round of
69 was two strokes off the low round for the tournament and the best
round of his collegiate career. He shot 216 for the three rounds to
pace Bowling Green to a tie for 12th place.
Lee Curry (Miami, Jr., Nepean, Ontario) led the RedHawks with a tie for
ninth place at the Kepler Cleveland Classic. He posted a low-round of
72 and tallied 223 strokes on the par 72 course over three rounds,
marking the third time he has led Miami this season.
Tim Rice (Toledo, Sr., Limerick, Ireland) tied for fifth place with a
three-round score of 220 (78-70-72). He paced the Rockets to a
third-place tie with Michigan.
Team Notes
Ball State won the BSU Invitational after a five-man playoff on the
first hole. The squad combined for three birdies and two pars to defeat
Eastern Kentucky and IUPU-Indianapolis.
Bowling Green's Jon Smarrelli recorded his third consectutive top-13
finish at the BSU Invitational. His second round of 69 was two strokes
off the low round for the tournament and the best round of his
collegiate career. He shot 216 for the three rounds to pace Bowling
Green to a tie for 12th place.
Kent placed fifth at Ohio State's Kepler Cleveland Classic. The Golden
Flashes currently rank 13th nationally according to the Mastercard
Collegiate Rankings and 24th in the Golfweek Sagarin College Rankings.
Ben Curtis ranks 12th individually in both rankings.
Miami shot a final round of 300 to finish sixth at the Kepler Cleveland
Classic, led by Lee Curry's even-par 72. The squad entered the final
day in a three-way tie for seventh place and finished the tournament at
41-over par with a total score of 905. Eric Phipps, who led Miami
entering into the final round, finished in 16th place with a score of
225 (71-77-77--225).
