ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) -- Nate Schindewolf scored 26 points and pulled down six rebounds as Akron earned a 79-68 come-from-behind win over Oakland Saturday night.
The Zips, down 33-31 at intermission, made 17-of-29 shots from the floor in the second half to win its season opener. Oakland lost its third straight since opening the season with
a stunning 97-90 win over Michigan.
Brad Buddenborg drained a 3-pointer to put the Golden Grizzlies up 41-38 five minutes into the second period. But Akron responded with a 17-3 run to go ahead 55-44 with
eight minutes remaining.
Mychal Covington scored 23 points and dished out six assists and Dan Champagne added 20 points and six boards for Oakland. Andy Hipsher had 16 points and David Falknor
scored 15 for Akron.
