Buffalo's States Named MAC Wrestler of the Week

Cleveland, Ohio (Jan. 25) --University at Buffalo junior Josh States has been honored as the Pepsi Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week of Jan. 25.

A 184 lb. wrestler from Lockport, N.Y., States captured the tournament title at the New York Intercollegiate with a win over No. 1 seed Rob Ansdach. States went 5-0 in the two-day event to improve his record to 18-8 for the season.

Other Nominees For This Week's Award:

Central Michigan's Jeremy Hardman (149 lb., Sr., Constatine, Mich.) broke a five-match winless streak with three wins at the Cliff Keen National Duals. Hardman won a 6-3 decision over Cornell's Gabe Webster, pinned Lyle Cronk of Montana State Northern in 3:37, and scored a 13-3 major decision over Larry Vasquez of Cal-State Bakersfield. Hardman improved to 16-10 on the season.

Kent's Nick Magistrelli (184 lb., Jr., Maple Heights, Ohio) defeated the MAC's top-ranked wrestler in his weight class, Northern Illinois' Dave Potter, 4-2 in overtime. Kent defeated the Huskies 22-9 and Magistrelli improved to 16-3 on the season.

Ohio's John Wervey (165 lb., Jr. Chagrin Falls, Ohio) went 2-0 with 5-4 and 3-1 wins in dual matches versus American University and Duquesne. In national rankings by InterMat, Wervey, with a 12-6 record, has been named honorable mention.
