TOLEDO (December 1, 1998) -- Fifteen Mid-American Conference men's soccer student-athletes earned first-team Academic
All-MAC selection in voting conducted by Mid-American Conference Faculty Athletic Representatives.
Overall, twenty-six student athletes earned either first-team or honorable mention on the All-Academic squad.
Five members of the all-academic squad earned All-MAC honors this season.
Northern Illinois, which finished the season with a 12-4-1 record and placed third in the conference, had
four players voted to the first team: Paal Bay
Braathen, Eirik Frederiksen, Jeff
Stojak, and Eric Clark. Western Michigan has the second most representatives on the first team, with
Evan Fonger, Eric Pogue, and Steve
Roth all earning recognition.
Lee Baker and Billy Dwyer from Kentucky,
Jonathan Holfinger and Nathaniel Lie
of Miami, Nick Kolliniatis of Bowling Green,
Brian Cruickshank from Buffalo, Eastern
Michigan's Drew Drummond, and Justin
Millard from conference-champion Akron round out the first-team selections.
Earning honorable mention are: Tracy
Dowe, Christer Larsen, and Frank Ross
from Akron; Ty Fowler of Bowling Green;
Brian McCallion and Jarek Radzinski from Buffalo; Kentucky's
Jason Bell, John Hinds, and Michael
Stickler; David Husbands of Marshall; and
Bradley Cain and Jonathan Malm from Miami.
Academic All-Mid-American Conference honorees are student-athletes who have excelled in academics
and athletics. To qualify a student-athlete must have at least a 3.00 grade point average during his or her
college career and be a starter or top reserve during the just-completed season.
