Cleveland, Ohio (March 21) -- Akron's Rianne Hess was named the Mid-American Conference Pepsi Hitter of the Week and Northern Illinois' Courtney Witvliet and Miami's Amber Arnold were named co-Mid-American Conference Pepsi Pitchers of the Week for the week of March 21.
MAC Pepsi Hitter of the Week - Akron's Rianne Hess ( 1B, So., Vancouver, Wash.)
Hess went 13-for-19 last week at the Winthrop Invitational for a .684 batting average. She also had a .789 slugging percentage, including two homeruns. Her second homerun of the tournament made the difference in a 3-2 Akron win over UNC-Wilmington. The sophomore first baseman had four multiple-hit games and went 4-for-4 against Buffalo and 3-for-3 against UNC-Wilmington. The Zips went 4-2 at the tournament as Hess scored eight runs and drove in seven.
MAC Pepsi co-Pitcher of the Week - Northern Illinois' Courtney Witvliet ( P, Jr., Dyer, Ind.)
Witvliet threw the first no-hitter of her college career in a 7-0 win over the University of Minnesota. The Huskies finished third at the 15-team Clearwater Parks & Recreation Tournament as Dalton went 3-0 at the tournament with an ERA of 0.81. For the week, she finished 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA
MAC Pepsi co-Pitcher of the Week - Miami's Amber Arnold (P, So., Dana Point, Calif.)
Arnold posted a 0.47 ERA in five appearances last week and picked up her second shutout of the season in 1-0 victory over Troy State. Arnold had 10 strikeouts against Troy State and a total of 41 in only 29.2 innings of work. She also had 12 strikeouts against Kansas in a 0-1 eight-inning loss at the Florida State Invitational. In 15.2 innings of work at the Florida State Invitational, she threw 23 strikeouts and recorded a 0.00 ERA.
Pitcher of the Week Nominations:
Akron's Lisa Keenan (P, So., Paradise, Calif.) gave up only seven hits and two earned runs in a four-game span last week as she struck out 24 batters in 28 innings of work at the Winthrop Invitational.
Hitter of the Week Nominations:
Northern Illinois' Jill Carpenter (SS, Sr., Tinley Park, Ill.) batted .471 with two doubles at the Clearwater Parks and Recreation Tournament. She finished the week 9-for-24 (.375) with a .458 slugging percentage.
Western Michigan's Alison Honaman (OF/P, Jr., Merrill, Mich.) Finished the Missouri Invitational 6-for-16 with one home run and four RBI.
