AKRON - Akron senior volleyball players Amy Hurley, Ashley Lewis, Julie McDivitt and Lyndsay Spresser celebrated their Senior Night in style this evening, leading the Zips to a commanding 3-0 victory over Mid-American Conference East foe Marshall in the James A. Rhodes Arena. With the win, the Zips conclude the regular season with an overall record of 16-13 and a MAC mark of 11-7.
McDivitt, who last night became the first player in MAC history to record over 1,000 assists, 1,000 digs and 1,000 kills, led the way again for Akron, tallying 32 assists, seven kills and two block assists. Hurley and Spresser came off the bench to collect nine and eight kills, repectively, with Hurley hitting at a .350 clip. Defensive specialist Lewis sparked an Akron defense that held Marshall to a .106 hitting percentage.
Akron got some major contributions from youngsters, also, as sophomore Ashlie Case had 13 kills and classmate Miranda Valentine finished the match with 11. Fellow sophomore Katie Kuzior hit .389 with eight kills, one block solo and one block assist.
Marshall was led by Nicole Michal's nine kills. The Thundering Herd fall to 4-27, 2-16 with the loss.
Results from several other matches this evening will determine Akron's seeding in the upcoming MAC Tournament, but they will next play on the road in the opening round of that tournament on Tuesday, November 21.
