Northern Illinois, Akron and Western Michigan Student-Athletes Earn Volleyball Honors

MAC Offensive Player of the Week
Jen VonderHaar, Northern Illinois (So., MH)

Northern Illinois sophomore middle blocker Jen VonderHaar is this weeks MAC Offensive Player of the Week. VonderHaar earns the honor after averaging 4.67 kills and hitting .500 (28-4-48) in a pair of Huskie wins over Illinois-Chicago and Central Michigan. Last years MAC Freshman of the Year hit .421 in a non-conference win over Illinois-Chicago, then had 19 kills and hit .552 in a key league contest with the Chippewas. In addition, VonderHaar also averaged 0.67 digs and 0.50 blocks per contest.

MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Sandy Lewis, Akron (Fr., OH)
Mentor, Ohio (Mentor HS)

Akron freshman outside hitter Sandy Lewis is the MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Western Michigans Monyka Paul. Lewis, who helped the Zips to a 2-1 record last week, averaged 5.31 digs, 0.62 aces and 0.46 blocks per game. In addition, Lewis averaged 3.08 kills per game. Lewis had 20 digs and 10 kills in a win over Marshall, then had 19 digs, 12 kills and five aces against Miami. The freshman ended the week with a career-high 30 digs and 18 kills in a five-game loss to Kent State.

Western Michigan senior outside hitter Monyka Paul holds the MAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors with Akrons Lewis after averaging 4.17 digs and 1.50 blocks per game for the Broncos, who increased their win streak to 12 following wins against Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. Paul, who also averaged 3.33 kills and hit .333, had 10 digs and five blocks to go with 10 kills versus the Chippewas, then had 15 digs, four blocks and 10 kills versus the Eagles.
