Buffalo, N.Y. (Nov. 5) - Miami University's women's soccer team claimed its first Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship on Nov. 5 by defeating Bowling Green 1-0 in double overtime. The RedHawks now travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on the Michigan Wolverines on Nov. 8 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The game-winning goal came of the foot of forward Danielle Berkemeier (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) in the 112th minute off an assist from midfielder Katie Milligan (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville).

Both teams battled back and forth the entire competition, with both having several scoring opportunities. The RedHawks outshot the Falcons 17-10 for the contest.

Miami and Bowling Green both played short handed. The RedHawks were without defender Tonja Weimer (Vandalia, Ohio/Vandalia Butler), who injured her ankle in the semifinal contest against Buffalo. The Falcons were without there leading scorer forward Jill Conover, who fractured her leg late in the Falcons semifinal contest with Western Michigan.

Berkemeier, Milligan, defender Maggie Lyon and goalkeeper Laura Degelleke were named to the MAC all-tournament team.
